Goshen High School Student Wins United Ways of Orange & Dutchess Counties Touch-A-Truck/Aviation Expo Logo Design Contest

MONTGOMERYThe United Ways of Orange and Dutchess Counties challenged students in Orange and Dutchess to design a logo to capture the spirit of its annual Touch-A-Truck/Aviation Expo fundraiser on May 14th. Lee Bush, a 10th grade student at Goshen High School, was up to the challenge and won first place in the contest.

Bush’s top winning logo depicting a dump truck, back hoe, airplane, helicopter and sky diver was unveiled at a press conference Tuesday at the Orange County Airport in Montgomery which will be the site of the United Way fundraiser. Taking second place was Megan Nicole Ridings of Walden, a 5th grader at Berea Elementary School. Third place winner was Henry Litsky of Wappingers Falls who attends 4th grade at Fishkill Plains Elementary School.

This year’s Touch-A-Truck will feature the Orange County Pilots Association’s Aviation Expo and will include helicopters, fighter jets, airplanes and special sky diving demonstrations as well as more than 50 vehicles of all types such as a fire truck, an ambulance and a dump truck. More than 5,000 people are expected to attend. Bush’s drawing will be used for the family-friendly event’s logo and all promotional activities including t-shirts and programs.

The winning logos were selected from 165 entries submitted by kids in grades pre-kindergarten to 11th attending schools in Orange and Dutchess counties.

Orange County Executive Edward A. Diana hosted the press conference and helped hand out the awards to the three winners with Orange County United Way Board Member Robin Seccafico, who is its Touch-A-Truck/Aviation Expo chair, and Dutchess County event co-chair Omer Gil. On hand to applaud the logo contest winners were Orange County United Way President and Chief Professional Officer Judy Eurich and United Way of Dutchess County Board of Governors’ Chair Sheila Appel.
