Orange County United Way Awards $256,000 in Community Impact Grants

At its Annual Meeting on June 16th, the Board of Directors of Orange County United Way approved the distribution of approximately $256,000 for Community Impact grants.  An additional $30,000 was approved for Targeted Care grants, which will be distributed throughout the course of the year.  Orange County United Way Community Impact grants come from an unrestricted pool of funds, and focus donor dollars on three main initiatives designed to create the most impact on the community as a whole.

The three initiatives include:

Helping Children and Youth Succeed
Making sure children reach the benchmarks for graduation and acquire the knowledge and skills to become contributing members of the community.

Promoting Financial Stability
Helping individuals and families move toward financial independence and/or enhance their standard of living.

Promoting Health and Well-Being
Providing access to quality affordable medical, dental, and behavioral health care and wellness services.

"Orange County is filled with residents who care deeply about their community, and their contributions to United Way are a testament to that dedication," said Donna Benson, Orange County Clerk and Chair of the Board of Directors of Orange County United Way.  "Not only did people contribute financially at a time when most were finding themselves struggling to make ends meet, but they also volunteered their time and talent to make Orange County United Way and the community stronger.  This year alone, Orange County United Way utilized over 10,000 volunteer hours.  The residents are Orange County's most valuable resource and we thank them for their support."

"Orange County United Way is sharpening its focus this year on the impact areas set forth in 2008 after the conclusion of its Community Needs Assessment," said Judy Eurich, President and CPO.  "Now we're implementing specific goals that drive each impact area.  We're more committed than ever to working with residents and community leaders to create lasting chage for all of us."
