Volunteer Opportunities

Board or Committee Membership

Orange County United Way could use volunteers to serve on its Board of Directors. The Board meets on the third Wednesday of every month at 5 pm at its headquarters located at 30 Scott’s Corners Drive in Montgomery. The Board plays a vital role in the governance of Orange County United Way.

United Way also hosts several board committees comprised of volunteers from the community that provide guidance to United Way and its staff members. Below is a list of committees available:

  • Fundraising Committee
  • Marketing Committee
  • Personnel Committee

Special Events

Orange Open

Every year, Orange County United Way co-hosts the Orange Open Golf Tournament with the Orange County Chamber of Commerce. The event takes place on three courses – Otterkill Golf and Country Club, Stony Ford Golf Course, and Winding Hills Golf Course. Volunteers are needed for both morning and afternoon shifts to help make the event run smoothly.

United Way/General Montgomery Day 8K

Orange County United Way has teamed up with the General Montgomery Day Race Committee to present the United Way/General Montgomery Day. Runners and walkers from across the county come out to participate in this 8K dubbed “the best little race in the country.” Volunteers are needed to help in the event.

AARP Tax-Aide Program

Orange County United Way is a member of the Hudson Valley CA$H Coalition (Creating Assets Savings and Hope), which is looking for volunteers to help with the AARP Tax-Aide Program. Volunteers are needed as greeters and tax preparers. No experience is necessary. Free training is provided. Volunteers will be helping residents to get their taxes prepared for free.

Women’s Leadership Fund

The Orange County Women’s Leadership Fund (WLF) is an initiative that promotes the independence, growth, and self-determination of women and girls. The WLF supports programs that help women and girls obtain financial self-reliance.

Volunteers are needed for the following WLF committees:

  • Allocations
  • Marketing
  • Member Relations
  • Special Events
  • Resource Development

Internship Program

Orange County United Way offers an un-paid/school credit internship program for college students and recent graduates. We offer on-the-job experience in the following categories:

  • Marketing/PR, Fundraising/Campaign
  • Event Planning
  • Finance
  • Community Outreach

Community Volunteer Opportunities

Hudson Valley 2-1-1 is a great resource to learn what volunteer opportunities are available at the many non-profit organizations throughout Orange County. 2-1-1 is a toll free information and referral hotline for health and human services. Campaign Assistance

Loaned Executives – Loaned Executives help staff plan, implement and evaluate campaign fundraising efforts to enable United Way to achieve its goal. This is done by acting as the primary liaison between his or her business accounts and United Way.

Clerical Assistance

Packing Campaign Supplies – During United Way’s peak campaign months (August – December) volunteers are need to help pack bags of campaign supplies for businesses in Orange County. Packing takes place at United Way’s office located at 30 Scott’s Corners Drive, Suite 102 in Montgomery.

General Office Help –During the course of the year, United Way can use volunteer assistance to help with general office duties. This might include clipping articles about United Way out of newspapers, filing, help with mailings, making copies, etc.
